So Like most people i sign up for differant services and product notifications.
On the sites you fill a form in with your details like name, address, email, etc Pritty standard details, on these sites also there is the option to opt out of having your details sold to a 3rd party.
Like most people i always tick the boxes to not have my details sold etc.
Over the last few weeks, i have ran an experiment with a number of popular on line sites such as Tesco, Asda, Eharmony, Zoosk, ebuyer, to name but a few.
Each time i signed up to the sites with my actual details but changed my email to suit the site IE tesco@domain.com, asda@domain.com etc, etc.
I also made sure i ticked the boxes to not have my details sold.
So what happened. Well everything was fine for the first few weeks only the actual company emailed the addresses i had entered on the site.
But then to the tesco address and eharmony address i started to get other companies trying to sell me stuff.
And to thre eharmony address i seen that, i was getting emails from other dating sites and escort sites advertising there services.
Reading through there sites privacy policy, you clearly find that, they dont sell your details…
So why am i getting emails to my eharmony account from escorts and other spaming sites if there not selling my details on?
I will now be closing all the accounts i opened for this experiment.
Rant over!
